Java is a programming language and environment invented by James Gosling in 1991, at Sun Microsystems and others in 1994. Java was originally named Oak and was developed as a part of the Green project at the Sun Company.

The writing of Java began in December of 1990. Patrick Naughton, Mike Sheridan, and James Gosling and were trying to figure out the "next wave" in computing.

Java is not a pure object oriented .Its partially object oriented. Object oriented means every thing should be used in terms of objects. In java we use data types with out creating any objects. Using java we can do fully object oriented programming. So it’s a partially object oriented. Java is a case sensitive language.
