The Cache Manager is a software-only component that is tightly integrated with the Windows NT Memory Manager to integrate the caching of file system data with the Virtual Memory System. Some operating systems implement their file systems so they have a distinct data cache. However, because such caches must be managed from physical memory they are limited in size – and memory used for such a cache is not available for use elsewhere in the system.
