This paper is devoted to the coherent detection of target burried in sea clutter, by use of a radar sensor. After reminding the
spectral and statistical sea clutter properties, we present a Constant False Alarm Rate (CFAR) detector, initially developped by Golstein [2].
We show that the detection performances of the latter - determined analytically by Golstein using an approximation - are of no use in
practical situations. Thus, we have to resort to Monte Carlo simulations to derive these performances. Finally, the CFAR performances are
illustrated with real sea clutter data, showing the gain obtained in terms of false alarm regulation.
